Inspired Teacher Collaborative Group Presentation
I chose the Inspired Teacher Collaborative Group Presentation for my first Showcase artifact. I believe that this presentation demonstrates several of the elements of TPE 6. First, as a group project it clearly demonstrated an example of Element 4, as it demonstrates effective communication with peers to support teacher learning. Next, the presentation helps to establish professional learning goals by describing what makes an effective teacher, demonstrating Element 3 of TPE 6. Finally, as an analysis of “inspired” and effective teaching, it demonstrates Element 1 by reflecting on what should be demonstrated in an effective plan and implementation for student learning. I plan to continue improving in these elements of TPE 6 in the future by continuing to engage in collaboration with my peers in examining what it means to be an effective teacher, and how to implement that in the classroom.
My experience in creating the presentation provides evidence of my growth as a professional educator by demonstrating my ability to work with peers in order to organize and present information for an educational purpose. In addition, it shows my growth in that it demonstrates a level of knowledge regarding Teaching Performance Expectations and “inspired” teaching that I did not previously have. This assignment was also a clear choice, as it explicitly relates to being an Inspired Teacher, in defining what that actually means and will look like in the future. It is an effective signpost for my future development.
When I think about inspiring my own future students, I believe it is important to be able to model some essential skills for them, and to show how they can be used. In this case, creating a presentation is a valuable skill that I have previously encountered in classroom curriculum, and being able to demonstrate a presentation that I worked on with my own peers can help to inspire students to work together themselves. Showing students how teamwork and communication with peers can lead to a successful project will be a valuable tool.
